14 year old Charmaine Jagman was born with Spina Bifida, a developmental congenital disorder caused by the incomplete closing of the embryonic neural tube. This condition makes walking very difficult and causes Charmaine to fall often, resulting in painful injuries. The Wellington Lions has donated a wheelchair to the family to help Charmaine to move around more freely.

Once a year we treat 300+ of our seniors to a braai. The meat is prepared in our special way that has them coming back year after year! We invite seniors from all walks of life. This year the traditional annual Christmas party for children from the communities of various Lions clubs was held at Intaka Island, Century City. The Wellington Lions Club has been doing its part to clean up our town by running a long term project that sees Correctional Services supplying labour on weekends to walk the streets and clean up garbage. These workers are supervised and fed by members of the Lions Club. Every Saturday around 15 people work from early morning filling dozens of garbage bags. Our chicken-braai was a huge success with almost 250 portions sold to hungry Wellington Lions supporters. At R50 per meal this is excellent value for money and we’ll do it again next year!
