What We Do
Lions meet the needs of local communities and the world. The 1.35 million members of our volunteer organization in 207 countries and geographic areas are different in many ways, but share a core belief – community is what we make it.
The Wellington Lions Club was founded in September 1966 by 20 Wellington residents. The Club is affiliated to the Lions Club International, one of 46,000 clubs world wide.
The Lions’ motto, “We Serve”, is something we strive towards on a daily basis. Funds are raised by way of projects and the funds are used in the community in various ways e.g. food parcels, clothes for needy families, scholar awards, youth camps etc.
The Wellington Lions Club also works closely together with other organisations like:
- Mums-4-Wellington
- NORSA
- Andrew Murray Children’s Home
- ACVV
- Silwerkruin Old Age Home
- Lukhanyo Youth Development Organisation
- Local schools and churches
Lions Clubs – Ready to Help, Worldwide
Whenever a Lions club gets together, problems get smaller. And communities get better. That’s because we help where help is needed – in our own communities and around the world – with unmatched integrity and energy.
The World’s Largest Service Club Organization
Our 46,000 clubs and 1.35 million members make us the world’s largest service club organization. We’re also one of the most effective. Our members do whatever is needed to help their local communities. Everywhere we work, we make friends. With children who need eyeglasses, with seniors who don’t have enough to eat and with people we may never meet.
Meetings
The Lions Club is an open organisation and any person is free to attend meetings. Our main goal is to uplift our community. Membership is by invitation and is limited to around 30 members.
