Every year the Wellington Lions Club invites more than 300 of our local seniors to a braai and some entertainment. It is one of our longest running projects and very popular with everyone. Here are some photos of the day. The rest of the photos and videos have been uploaded to our Flickr account.

Here are a few photos from our recent chicken braai. This is one of our annual fund raising projects and this year we prepared around 200 meals for our loyal supporters. The Wellington Lions Club recently donated 95 rain jackets to all the learners of Voor Groenberg Primary School, on the outskirts of Wellington. The donation was made possible by funds raised during the Voetspore evening with Johan Badenhorst that was held earlier this year (2014). This project was also part of our “67 minutes for Mandela”. 14 year old Charmaine Jagman was born with Spina Bifida, a developmental congenital disorder caused by the incomplete closing of the embryonic neural tube. This condition makes walking very difficult and causes Charmaine to fall often, resulting in painful injuries. The Wellington Lions has donated a wheelchair to the family to help Charmaine to move around more freely.

Once a year we treat 300+ of our seniors to a braai. The meat is prepared in our special way that has them coming back year after year! We invite seniors from all walks of life. Lots of hard work goes on in the background but the warm appreciation year after year makes it all worth while. André Victor and his band provided the music this year and it proved to be a hit! The annual senior braai is probably the longest running function we host at the Wellington Lions Club. The first braai was held more than 30 years ago and it is still one of the most popular fixtures on the calendar. This year was no different and we set the table for 350 of our much loved seniors at the Huguenot Primary School hall. The Wellington Lions Club has been doing its part to clean up our town by running a long term project that sees Correctional Services supplying labour on weekends to walk the streets and clean up garbage. These workers are supervised and fed by members of the Lions Club. Every Saturday around 15 people work from early morning filling dozens of garbage bags. The Wellington Lions Club has donated 5 wheelchairs to the Silwerkruin Old Age Home. We would like to thank the Tygerberg Rotary Club for making this donation possible. The Wellington Lions Club recently received an invitation from the Wellington Rotary Club  to contribute to the 2013 Back to School Campaign. At an auspicious event, held on the 15th January 2013, a number of speakers motivated the learners and parents to make school attendance a priority. It has become an annual tradition for a number of Lions clubs to take children from their community to a Chistmas party at the De Grendel wine farm between Durbanville and Cape Town. Our chicken-braai was a huge success with almost 250 portions sold to hungry Wellington Lions supporters. At R50 per meal this is excellent value for money and we’ll do it again next year!
